Message from the President January 2009
Happy 2009!
This year heralds enormous change with a new administration and, from government to auto makers, a new emphasis on integrity and meaningful, effective management. New opportunities are already arising from realignments and recoveries. This is a stellar time for people with performance improvement knowledge to contribute.
To help connect HPT practitioners with those who need performance improvement services, we are instituting a new section on our website: Connecting Need with Know-How. If you have need or knowledge, please send us your information to hpiservices@ispi-dc.org (and we'll post it under: Services Needed or Services Available. If you are a CPT member, we have drafted a format to list your services in more detail. Please contact John Faucher (cpt@ispi-dc.org) and he'll help you customize your page in our new D.C. CPT Directory. (The price for this was covered in your extra $10 membership fee.)
Speaking of contributions, John Fox, Dan Elbert, and new member Mark Boccia, and I have been working along with web developer John Faucher to deliver improvements and advances aiding our chapter's re-emergence. December saw our first online broadcast, a memorial to the late legend of ISPI, Dr. Geary Rummler. Thanks to Dan's coup of StarCast™ sponsorship, John's technical hooking up, and Mark's diligent editing, we will make this available online to our members shortly. Way to go! While not nominated for the Oscars, it went well enough that Geary's family listened in and ISPI International asked for a copy as they prepare their own major remembrance for presentation at the 2009 conference in Orlando.
Our goal of reaching 100 members is 60% realized but we need your help to reach it. Please encourage folks to join, and if you haven't done so, please renew your own membership. We also need a little bit of help from several folks to keep the ship on course. Your donation of 2-4 hours would make a huge difference! Please contact me to see how you can help (president@ispi-dc.org).
We're starting off 2009 right. Our January program features the utmost in new on-boarding practices from Dr. Terry Bickham of Deloitte's Learning and Talent Development. If you're responsible for bringing new hires into your dynamic culture and setting them on the course for success, don't miss this terrific program!
We wish you and yours all the best in 2009!
Sarah Ward
